| Bio: | Dr. Hamilton is a native of Paducah, KY. He attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville from 1976 until 1981, receiving a BS degree in Chemical Engineering. He then attended medical school at Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he developed his interest in pediatrics. Dr. Hamilton completed an internship and residency in General Pediatrics at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. He then entered private practice in 1988 when he joined Dr. Barbara Kennedy and Dr. Lee Ann Freeman at Southern Hills Pediatrics. He subsequently, left that practice in the summer of 1990 and opened a solo practice at Southern Hills hospital. Within a few months he had the opportunity to relocate the practice to the campus of Centennial Medical Center. That practice was renamed Centennial Pediatrics in 1992 due to the addition of a second pediatrician and the close proximity of the practice to Centennial Park and its association with Centennial Medical Center.
Dr. Hamilton devoted his practice to the provision of quality health care to infants and children of all races, ethnic groups and socioeconomic backgrounds. In 1994, with the introduction of TennCare, many community physicians refused to participate in this controversial program. Dr. Hamilton felt that as pediatricians we have an obligation to ensure that all children have access to affordable healthcare and as a result he created an additional facility called Nashville Primary Care for Children in 1994. That facility was dedicated to the care of all children despite their insurance status, with physicians and nurse practitioners providing the same level of excellent care that would be expected in any other medical office. This office was successful in finding a way to provide state of the art medical care, remaining financially viable in a difficult "managed care" environment. That location is now called Centennial Pediatrics, Southern Hills and is our highest volume care center, providing services to children of more than a dozen nationalities. In 1998, a third office was opened in Brentwood. Dr. Hamilton began splitting his clinical time between that site and the original Centennial Park location. Because of the increased administrative duties of a growing practice, Dr. Hamilton reduced his clinical practice to part time in 2005, transitioning all of his clinical time to the Brentwood location. Today, he continues to see patients at the Brentwood site. Additional Centennial Pediatrics offices were established in Aspen Grove (Franklin/Cool Springs), Bellevue, Clarksville, Lebanon, Mt. Juliet, Murfreesboro, Skyline, Smyrna, and Spring Hill, all with the common mission of serving all children in their respective communities regardless of their insurance status. Under Dr. Hamilton's guidance, the practice now provides pediatric subspecialty services as well including Pediatric Dermatology, Pediatric Allergy, Pediatric Orthopedics and Sports Medicine and Child Psychology. Dr. Hamilton is a community leader and visionary. He is active in a number of child advocacy organizations and is currently the Vice-President of the Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is the chair of the TennCare EPSDT committee. Dr. Hamilton serves on the Board of Trustees at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. He was appointed to the Children's Cabinet by Governor Bredesen in 2004 and remains active in that capacity. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees at Fisk University. Dr. Hamilton has been married to the former Arnetta Davie since 1992. They share four children, Corey (1978), Janean (1988), Lance (1994) and Myles (1998). He has been a member of the Schrader Lane Church of Christ since his arrival to Nashville in 1981. Dr. Hamilton is especially proud to called Coach Eddie after winning back to back league and tournament championships for the 3rd and 4th grade divisions of the West Nashville Scholastic League (WNSL) in 2007 and 2008. |
